Another great time at Firefly Music festival has gone by and all I’m left with is the urge to go back. Firefly 2017 can not come soon enough! I’ve mentioned here before about why it’s is such an important part of my life in previous posts (Firefly 2015 and that time music festival and my brother changed my life) so I won’t get into it. It’s also the one time of the year Julio and I get to go off on our own. We love music. We are a music loving family and our kiddos love it as much as we do. It’s something we bond over, but the hubs and I don’t get to go off to concerts whenever one of our favorite bands is close by. It’s just not a possibility, and it’s ok there are other priorities! So, we have Firefly Music Festival to look forward to in June…it’s what we talk about all year long!
When the wristbands arrive it only means you are just one step closer to the Woodlands!
We didn’t plan on arriving until Friday because I had to go into work for a few hours, and Julio had to run a few errands. Everything had to be all set for the kiddos (some peace of mind for me). They had a great weekend with my mother in law. We are always with our kids, so even though they aren’t babies, we worry about leaving them behind. It’s great to enjoy our weekend away with out having to stress.
There’s a great excitement and rush you feel as soon as you walk into The Woodlands of Dover, Delaware. I have to honestly, say that we never have a bad encounter or experience during our entire time there. We always encounter positive and friendly people! I love it! Even, if you’re guarded and an introvert like I am, it’s hard not to let your guard down and have fun. I have to admit, it has gotten a lot easier for me to do that every year I have attended. It’s up to you to choose to live in the moment!
Julio and I enjoyed some Fitz and the Tantrums, followed by Of Monsters and Men and Ellie Goulding. The first night, was a “date” that was long overdue, with Kings of Leon. Last year, I missed their performance because the festival was closed early due to severe weather! I waited as close to the stage as I could possibly get for over an hour, because there was no way I’d miss them again!
Please, do not mind my blurry pictures.
We were exhausted after our first night! So much excitement! We had booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Wilmington- Newark Hotel. It’s the same hotel we stayed at last year. By the time, we had finally purchased our tickets all nearby hotels were either booked or the prices were out of our budget! It was about a 40 min drive back and forth for the 3 days but it was worth it. It It felt great to head back to a warm and cozy bed each night after a long day of walking around. Our room was clean and comfortable and the hotel staff were very welcoming.
Saturday night was definitely my favorite night!! We enjoyed some great performances including my favorites, Florence and the Machine, M83 and St.Lucia. Now, I’m always torn. To take pictures and video, or to not take them….that is the question! If I took picture and video it was to keep some good memories of my weekend and to share some of the performances with my son. He loves some of these bands as much as we do. Little snippets of these awesome performances was the least I could do for him!
Anyway and most importantly, Dance- sing-let loose- and repeat!
Sunday, the last day, we checked out some of the great vendors at The HUB, and played games at the Beercade. **sidenote** I just HAD to take a picture of this guy wearing a flag from Honduras! I thought it was just the most random thing. I don’t know what his story was, but being the “CATRACHA” I am, I really enjoyed it!
Supporting great causes, like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is important! Stopping by their tent is always a priority! The kids love the souvenirs we bring them and most importantly, when we tell them we donated to kids in need.
Sunday also happened to be Father’s Day! I knew the hubs loved being there but hated he wasn’t spending Father’s Day with the kids. He is such an amazing Dad and we let him know everyday, but spending this day with them is a tradition he cherishes!
Last year we ended up leaving a little early so he could spend some time with the kids. He assured me we wouldn’t do that this year. I couldn’t do that him. Firefly is always such a wonderful experience because I get to share that time with him. From the first year, he understood how important it was for me to go. He has been the best support I could ever ask for, never questioning whyI want to attend year after year.
We left before blink 182. I don’t regret it. I had the greatest MOST unforgettable time at Firefly!
The only complaint I have, well…maybe regret is that we always miss out on the Firefly Music Festival Fan Page meet-up at The Brewery. I miss out in seeing some of the wonderful Firefly Fam I’ve grown to care about! Maybe next year?!:)
Keeping my little brother’s memory alive is my motivation. When I’m standing in the crowd experiencing the live music, I know he’s with me. He’s jumping along right next to me like I know he would. there is no better feeling!
Thousands of people, all different kinds of unique amazing people attend Firefly, for one reason or another. Everyone with different stories to tell, but we all have our love of music in common!
My goal for next year is to have an even better weekend than the last!! (Maybe even do the whole VIP experience.) Firefly 2017 is 300 something days away!
