The Real Cooking Ultimate Baking Starter Set was one of the top toys on Sarah’s Christmas list! She loves to cook and bake. She also loves helping me out when I’m in the kitchen. Naturally, she was so happy to have received it and could not wait to get started!
This kit included:
- frosting, cake mix, sprinkles for 2 kinds of cupcakes (makes 16 cupcakes)
- suction lock bowls and measuring spoons
- fast cooling silicone pan
- cupcake liners
- utensils and fail- proof egg cracker
- pastry bag and frosting tips
Our fresh ingredients needed:
- vegetable oil
- butter (softened)
- vanilla extract (optional)
She made it very clear that she wanted to bake and decorate all by herself. The less assistance I gave her, the better. The first thing she wanted to do was crack the egg! The egg cracker was a hit! I think we were all blown away by how easy it was for her to use. There were no traces of shell in the egg! She added the cake mix, oil, egg and water inside one of the spill-proof suction bowls and mixed them with her very own whisk. We followed the baking instructions and baked the cupcakes in our already pre-heated oven at 350 degrees for 9 minutes.
After the cupcakes quickly cooled, she made a little hole in each of them with her finger so she can fill it with her surprise sparkle sprinkles.
Then it was time to make the frosting. She mixed her frosting mix, softened butter, and water! Now…to be honest…my kitchen is very hot and the butter ended up getting soft. Sarah put a little too much water and the frosting turned to soup. There was a tiny bit of worry from my ladybug. I remembered we had some vanilla frosting in our cupboard and that’s what we used. We improvised! She piped that on her cupcakes and was so proud of herself!
All that was left was just to put all the star sprinkles on each cupcake!!
Sarah was so proud of herself for completing her recipe. She was very independent! All I did was guide her a few times and help when it came to oven use.
My overall take on it was very good. All the utensils were easy for her to use! My favorite was the egg-cracker! We had a little bit of a hard time with the suction piece for the bowls, but I think it had to do with the surface it was on. Sarah still has some trouble with her motor skills so the spill proof bowls and egg-cracker help with her confidence in completing each task. The tools are light and easy to hold and, although I know she will eventually learn to crack an egg on her own, it definitely helps to make that transition fun and easy! The cupcakes tasted delicious. Other baking or real cooking toys might have foods that don’t taste good.
You can use the tools from the ultimate baking set with your own recipes at home and when your kiddo is helping you cook or bake!
